Show off your Expertise
Show them what you've got
If you're in a room networking, people can get a sense of who you are, even if they're not in direct conversation with you. They see your personality shine through, not only by what you say and how you say it, but by the response you're receiving by those around you. Blogs give you a chance to do this online.
One of my clients was chosen over a competitor because of the content in her blog.
The reader liked not only what she said, but also the manner in which it was presented. The comments on her blog posts and the way she replied to them showed potential clients how she would interact with them if they hired her. Which they did. They felt that her personality would mesh well with their corporate atmosphere and contacted her company.
Blogs give you a chance to show off your knowledge, your communication style and personality.
While a business blog should be mostly about business, throwing a little personal information in, makes you more real and approachable. This is especially true for consultants and small businesses, who are often one-person operations.
You must be trusted. After all, you're being asked to change and improve aspects of their business. There needs to be a high level of respect and confidence in your abilities, a blog can help establish a solid foundation even before they contact you.
For example, if you read my blog you'll learn quite quickly that I'm also a writer and part owner of an e-publishing company. I have an informal communication style and I love learning new concepts. Much of the internet marketing ideas I test, I do with all three of my business ventures. Each of them has a different market with very different needs.
Some of my clients have said knowing this has made them feel more confident in my abilities. I have obvious experience in a broad range of business types. They never would have known this if it wasn't for my blog.
