Web Design FAQs

My hosting company has a build it yourself website service, so why should I hire SNB Consulting Services?

There are a lot of automatic web building sites out there. Just choose your colours and plug in your information and away you go. Simple... or is it?

Just having a website just doesn't cut it anymore. Everyone and their dog has one - and I mean this literally, some of the pet websites out there are incredible. So how do you get noticed? How do you compete? That's where hiring a professional comes in, having someone guide you through the research, content creation, navigation and optimize for Google and the other search engines, is an invaluable resource.

Your competition is only two clicks away.

Even if your homepage is high on the search engine rankings and you get hundreds of visitors a day, are they buying? What percentage of viewers convert to customers? You have less than 30 seconds to engage a potential customer after they arrive at your site. If they can't find what they're looking for or at least a path to find the information they want, they'll hit the back button and choose the next website on the list. You competition quite literally is two clicks away.

What's all this hype about Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

It used to be about keywords. But like everything else, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has grown more complicated, partly because there are so many websites out there and partly because there are a lot of spammers who bend the rules to get their pages listed, thus visited, before legitimate sites.

When building your website, Search Engine Optimization should be incorporated into every stage of development. How you organize your content and describe your services play a vital role in how the search engines rate your website and place you on their lists.

Caution - Search Engines are very strict in their SEO requirements. There are many tricks and methods that used to be acceptable, but currently will result in having your website banned from their rankings. SNB Consulting strictly adheres to the Google Webmaster Guidelines to ensure your website has maximum visibility without risk.

No one can claim to have a special relationship with the search engines to ensure your website will make it to the top. Search engines are effective because they are impartial and produce the best results based on the search parameters requested by the user. Giving preferential rankings would be counterproductive. Having said that, most search engines provide a paid advertising service, to help boost your visibility. this is an additional option to explore.

How do we do this? What do you need from me?

When we set out to create your website, we will meet to discuss your goals for the website, how you'd like it to look, your customers, your competition and your products/services. Since no one knows your business better than you, it will be up to you to write your content but SNB Consulting Services won't leave you stranded. We will give you a questionaire to help arrange your content as you write it and eliminate the 'where do I start' and 'oh gosh, did I forget anything?' panic.

While you work on your content, we'll be designing your website based on our discussion. At least three layouts will be presented for approval. Once we have the layout, we'll create the navigation component for your site. This will coordinate with your content to allow visitors to easily find the information they're looking for to increase their chance of converting to customers. SEO details will be added to make sure your business information displays exactly as desired when shown on the search results.

Once we upload your content to your website, the draft will be sent to you to make changes and finally approve. Your website will be made public and you'll be online and open for business. Most websites can be online within a month from our first meeting depending on how much content needs to be written.

Do I have to sign a contract?

Yes. SNB Consulting Services requires a service agreement to be signed. Included is a confidentiality agreement. Within the contract are itemized project parameters, timelines and responsibilities to ensure there are no surprises along the way.
